Welcome back!

Can you believe we are embarking on the final stretch before summer break and 2nd grade!?!

It feels like we just began this first grade journey together, but when I reflect back on where we started and how far we've come I am truly astounded! I was making some reading plans for book clubs this week and I had TWO chapter books going with groups of readers! Seriously amazing :)

Although these last couple of months of first grade are  going to fly by we still have LOADS to learn and May happens to be one of the most exciting (in my opinion!) months all year! Here are some of the highlights:

Math:
We will be wrapping up out Everyday Math curriculum in the next couple of weeks which will give us an amazing opportunity to do some project- based math learning. This gives students hands-on and inquiry-based opportunities to extend and apply all of their math learning!

Literacy:
We are wrapping up our opinion writing unit and the kids did an AMAZING job! I am so lucky to get to work with this incredible group of learners this year!! We will spend the next few weeks working on some fiction writing and then we will be writing Informational Books and finally end our year with a Poetry unit.
During Readers Workshop we will continue our book clubs and our study of nonfiction. It has been inspiring to see the natural excitement the kids show to participate in their "book clubs"! They have really begun to take responsibility for their reading and have a true sense of urgency about their precious reading time!

Science:
Our final science unit this year will be a Life Cycles unit focused on embryology --buckle-up --we're hatching chicks!!

As always, thank you so much for your continued support at home. Please feel free to contact me with any questions concerns or comments :)

Best,
Courtney
